Delivery

Our normal delivery method is guaranteed next day (usually before 1-00pm) for orders received before 11-00am . Normally a signature is required. However if you are not sure that there will be someone in to sign for the delivery you can specify for the flowers to be left in a safe place, please indicate this on the order page. Please note that if the delivery driver does not consider a place safe enough to leave unattended a card will be left to rearrange delivery or collection.
If you require before noon delivery we will use the Royal Mail Special Delivery service. This guarantees next working day before noon delivery in the UK . The delivery will need to be signed for. If no one if available to sign it will be returned to the sorting office for collection.
Please note that we only dispatch on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. This is since Friday dispatched orders have a guaranteed delivery date of the following Monday (next working day) and we prefer our flowers not to be out of water this long if at all possible.
As a rule of thumb delivery is possible on normal working days when the day before is ALSO a normal working day
On despatch the Delivery reference number will be e-mailed to you. This will allow the delivery to be tracked on line. Details will be included in the e-mail

Please note, we only deliver in the UK.
Our packing and delivery system means that your flowers are optimally conditioned and in transit for only a short period of time. They travel at the coolest part of the day for delivery the next day.
Please note that some areas of Scotland have longer guaranteed delivery times.

Guarantee

We have very few complaints and have never yet lost a customer over a problem!
However if you do have a problem with any aspect of our service please contact us at the Nursery so that we can put it right as soon as possible. Contact details are above.
If we ask you to return any material, we will arrange collection at our expense.

Quality

We harvest our alstroemeria just as the first bud is bursting. We believe that this is the optimum time to pick. It means that the first bud is generally larger and subsequent buds more likely to open than a flower harvested earlier. Imported alstroemeria are almost always harvested in tight bud. They have to be since they take much longer to get to you!
After picking, the flowers are graded, bunched and then placed in our coldstore. They then spend between 4 and 24 hours in a post harvest conditioning solution specially formulated for alstroemeria. We pack in boxes at 4-30pm and dispatch by 5-00pm for delivery the next morning to you.
Our harvesting, packing and delivery system means that your flowers are optimally conditioned and in transit for only a short period of time. They travel at the coolest part of the day for delivery before noon.

Environmental Issues

One of the reasons we chose to specialize in growing alstroemeria is because these flowers require far fewer applications of pesticides than just about any other cut flower crop.
On our nursery we have taken this a step further and reduced our insecticide use to an absolute minimum.
We use natural biological control to keep aphid levels low and tolerate the occasional infestation of caterpillars and earwigs, preferring to throw out a small number of stems rather than spray. Very occasionally (sometimes once, rarely twice a year), we spray with an insecticide.
Buying direct from a UK grower also minimizes the ' Flower Miles '. Our flowers have to travel far shorter distances than those which are imported, thereby helping to reduce pollution and carbon dioxide emissions.

Really Useful Packaging

To help reduce waste and be more environmentally friendly we pack our flowers in a Really Useful Tube. This can be reused in all kinds of ways.
With all of the following suggestions the tubes can be left bare or decorated in your own style.
  • Leave just one end cap on for an umbrella stand, use the remaining end cap as a saucer for standing pot plants in.
  • They are great for general storage of posters, craft paper and materials, dolls, cuddly toys etc.
  • They make brilliant drums. But probably best for someone else’s children.
  • Laid on the side they make great storage for shoes or even several bottles of wine.
  • You can never have enough waste paper bins; these make ideal bins for the bathroom or children’s' bedrooms.;
If you have some more suggestions send an e-mail to us at ideas@alstroemeria.co.uk to be entered into our prize draw.

Credit Card Security

We know of no documented cases of credit card fraud using our shopping system over the Internet. All credit card numbers are encrypted using 128 bit encryption. They are only decrypted after they reach our computer. They are not held in clear text on any web site.
We use a Secure Socket Layer (SSL) security system at the credit card entry phase. This is indicated by a golden padlock in the browser bar.( At the bottom near the right hand side in Internet Explorer or at the far right for Netscape Navigator) One added advantage is that our tests show that this will make the ordering process slightly faster.
